What this tool does
A bed that fits a room on paper can still be the wrong bed, because what matters is not whether it fits but what is left around it: room to walk past, room to open a wardrobe, room to make the bed without climbing over it. Put in the room and the bed, say how much clearance you want, and this page tells you what you are left with on each side and at the foot — and, if it is too tight, the widest bed that would work instead.

Frequently asked questions
Why not just pick from a list of mattress sizes?
Because those names mean different things in different places, and often between two shops in the same street. A double is 135 cm wide in Britain and 140 in much of Europe; king and queen differ again between Europe and North America, and manufacturers add their own. Measuring the bed you are actually considering and typing the two numbers is the only version of this that cannot be wrong.
