Mechanical Power from Torque and Speed

Shaft power in watts, kW and horsepower from torque and rotational speed.

Results

Power 18,221.2 W
Power 18.2212 kW
Power 24.4351 hp
Speed 151.8436 rad/s

What this tool does

Power is torque times angular velocity, and the factor 2π/60 is what turns revolutions per minute into radians per second. This is the calculation that links a motor's nameplate to what it can actually do at the shaft.

Formula

P = M × 2π × n ÷ 60

Worked example

  • Torque120 N·m
  • Rotational speed1450 rpm

Limitations

  • Mixing units is the most common source of error. Convert every input to the units shown next to each field before calculating.
  • The formula assumes ideal conditions: no friction losses, no air resistance and no efficiency losses unless you enter them.
