What this tool does
A four-digit PIN has exactly ten thousand possibilities, which sounds like a lot until you learn how few of them people actually use. Drawing one at random puts you somewhere in the whole range rather than in the crowded corner, and adding two digits multiplies the space by a hundred at the cost of two more button presses.
Formula
combinations = 10^length

Frequently asked questions
Why avoid choosing a PIN yourself?
Because people choose from a very small part of the range. Studies of leaked PIN sets keep finding the same thing: a handful of codes — 1234, 1111, 0000, and years beginning 19 — account for a large share of all PINs in use, so guessing the most common few gets an attacker in far more often than one try in ten thousand would suggest. A randomly drawn PIN is spread evenly across the whole range.
