What this tool does
Button-by-button calculators make you build an expression one keystroke at a time and then leave you unable to see what you entered. Writing the whole thing out is faster, and it means you can read it back, spot the missing bracket and correct it rather than starting again. The same evaluator runs every formula on this site, so what you type here is parsed exactly the way the calculators are, and nothing is sent anywhere — the whole calculation happens in your browser.
Formula
evaluates the expression as written, respecting the precedence of the operations
Variables
| Symbol | Meaning | Unit |
|---|---|---|
expression | Expression | — |
VL | Result | — |
RD | Rounded to 2 decimals | — |
RC | One divided by the result | — |
Worked example
- Expressionsqrt(2) * pi + 3^2
- Result13.4428829382
- Rounded to 2 decimals13.44
- One divided by the result0.0743888052
Limitations
- The calculation runs entirely in your browser. The values you type are never sent to a server.
- Mixing units is the most common source of error. Convert every input to the units shown next to each field before calculating.
Frequently asked questions
Do the trigonometric functions take degrees?
No, radians, like every programming language and most of mathematics. Wrap the angle in rad() to convert: sin(rad(30)) is the sine of thirty degrees. Going the other way, deg() turns a result in radians back into degrees, so deg(atan(1)) gives 45. The functions available are sqrt, cbrt, abs, sign, floor, ceil, round, trunc, exp, ln, log, log10, log2, pow, min, max, hypot, the trigonometric family, rad, deg, mod, clamp, gcd, lcm and fact, with the constants pi, e, g and c_light.
