Video File Size Calculator

File size of a video from its bitrate and length, the recording time on a card, and the bitrate that would fill it exactly.

Results

File size 5.5296 GB
File size 5529.60 MB
Minutes 1041.67 min
File size 3.6864 GB/h
Video bitrate 94.8148 Mbit/s

What this tool does

Bitrate is the only thing that decides file size — resolution and frame rate matter only because they push the bitrate a codec needs to look acceptable. Rough working figures: 8 Mbit/s for good 1080p, 20 to 30 for 4K streaming, and well over 100 for editing formats. Variable bitrate recording will land under these numbers on calm footage and over them on busy scenes.

Formula

size = bit rate × duration ÷ 8

Limitations

  • The result is an estimate based only on the values you type. Real situations often include factors this calculator does not know about.
  • US and imperial (UK) units with the same name are not the same size. Check which system your figures come from.
  • The calculation runs at full precision and only the display is rounded. If you copy an intermediate value and retype it, small differences can appear.
