What this tool does
Volume carries the most naming traps of any unit family. A gallon, a pint and a fluid ounce all mean different amounts depending on whether the figure is American or British, and a cup in a recipe may be 240 ml or 250 ml. Every unit here is labelled with its system so you can pick the right one instead of hoping. Metric volumes are exact: one litre is exactly one cubic decimetre.

Frequently asked questions
Is a US gallon the same as a UK gallon?
No, and the difference is large enough to matter. A US gallon is 3.785 litres; an imperial (UK) gallon is 4.546 litres, about 20 % bigger. The same applies to pints and fluid ounces. Both are listed separately in the converter so you never have to guess which one a figure came from.
