What this tool does
Surface area scales with metabolic rate better than weight does, which is why it appears in physiology and in some clinical dosing rather than body mass. The three published formulas were fitted to different populations and typically agree within a few percent; Mosteller is the simplest and the most widely used. This is reference information, not a dosing tool.
