What this tool does
Basal metabolic rate is roughly what your body would use lying still all day; multiplying it by an activity factor gives an estimate of total daily energy use. Mifflin-St Jeor is the equation most dietitians use, and it is still only an estimate — real individual metabolism varies by 10 % or more in either direction.
