What this tool does
Pipes are sold by outside diameter, but what flows through them depends on the inside — and the wall takes more away than people expect. The page works out both: the volume the pipe holds, and the weight of the pipe plus its contents, which is the number that matters when you are deciding how to support a full line.
Formula
inside = π (dᵢ ÷ 2)² · wall = π (dₒ² − dᵢ²) ÷ 4 · pipe mass = wall × length × density

Limitations
- Mixing units is the most common source of error. Convert every input to the units shown next to each field before calculating.
- The calculation runs at full precision and only the display is rounded. If you copy an intermediate value and retype it, small differences can appear.
