What this tool does
Silent reading of ordinary prose averages around 238 words a minute across studies, but it drops sharply for dense technical material and climbs for familiar, easy text. Reading aloud is far slower — about 130 words a minute is a comfortable presenting pace, which is why a five-minute talk is roughly 650 words and no more.
