What this tool does
Picking teams by having two captains choose alternately is the method everyone remembers, and the one that leaves the same child standing last every week. Shuffling the whole list and dealing it round is faster, balanced by construction, and answerable to nobody's judgement. The seed is shown with the result so the same split can be repeated if anyone asks.

Frequently asked questions
What happens when the numbers do not divide evenly?
The names are dealt round the teams like cards, so the extra people land one per team starting from the first. Seven people in three teams gives three, two and two — never four, one and two. The largest and smallest team sizes are shown so you can see at a glance whether the split is as even as it can be.
