What this tool does
All three of these describe the same thing — how much heat a machine moves for each unit of energy it eats — and differ only in the units they are dressed in. COP is dimensionless, EER puts British thermal units over watt-hours, and kW/ton runs backwards: it is the electricity a chiller needs per ton of cooling, so a smaller number is better. A useful check is that EER multiplied by kW/ton always comes to exactly 12. Seasonal ratings such as SEER and SCOP are a different kind of number and are deliberately absent.

Limitations
- COP, EER and kW/ton are three ways of writing the same ratio of heat moved to energy used, so converting between them is exact. Seasonal figures such as SEER or SCOP are averages over a whole heating or cooling season and cannot be converted to an instantaneous COP by any fixed factor.
- The calculation runs at full precision and only the display is rounded. If you copy an intermediate value and retype it, small differences can appear.
