What this tool does
Temperature is the one conversion people get wrong most often, because it needs an offset as well as a factor. A 10 °C rise is an 18 °F rise, but 10 °C is 50 °F — the size of a degree and the position of zero are two separate questions. This converter works through Kelvin internally, so every scale is handled the same way.

- Temperatures below absolute zero (−273.15 °C) do not exist physically. The converter will still show the arithmetic result.
Frequently asked questions
Why is temperature not a simple multiplication?
Because the Celsius and Fahrenheit scales do not start at the same place. Kilometres and miles both start at zero distance, so one factor is enough. Zero Celsius and zero Fahrenheit are different temperatures, so every conversion needs a shift as well as a scaling. That is why 0 °C is 32 °F rather than 0 °F.
At what temperature do Celsius and Fahrenheit agree?
