Welded Mesh Calculator

Sheets, mass per square metre and total weight of reinforcement mesh, with the lap between sheets taken off.

Results

Panels to buy 9
Area one sheet really covers 11.9700
Area of one sheet as sold 14.4000
Mass per square metre 2.9594 kg/m²
Total mesh mass 383.54 kg
Area lost to the laps 29.600
Mass of one metre of bar 0.22195 kg/m
Bar length in one square metre 13.3333 m/m²

What this tool does

Mesh sheets have to overlap, and the overlap is not free: a 6 by 2.4 sheet with a 300 mm lap covers only 11.97 square metres, not 14.4. The mass comes from the bars themselves — diameter and spacing, in both directions, at the density of steel — so the page works for any mesh, not only the ones with a standard code name.

Formula

kg/m² = 2 × 7850 × π d² ÷ (4000 × spacing) · usable sheet = (L − lap)(W − lap) · sheets = ⌈area ÷ usable sheet⌉

Limitations

  • The result is an estimate based only on the values you type. Real situations often include factors this calculator does not know about.
  • The calculation runs at full precision and only the display is rounded. If you copy an intermediate value and retype it, small differences can appear.
  • Mixing units is the most common source of error. Convert every input to the units shown next to each field before calculating.
