What this tool does
This is the conversion behind the most common complaint about internet speed: the line is sold in bits and the download is shown in bytes, a factor of eight apart. Every unit here is labelled so you can see which family it belongs to.
Worked example
100 Mbit/s 12.5 MB/s
Conversion table

| Byte per second B/s | 125,000 |
| Kilobyte per second kB/s | 125 |
| Megabyte per second MB/s | 0.125 |

One value per line. The units above are used for every line.
Limitations
- The calculation runs at full precision and only the display is rounded. If you copy an intermediate value and retype it, small differences can appear.
Frequently asked questions
Why does a 100 Mbps connection download at only 12 MB/s?
Because one is measured in bits and the other in bytes, and a byte is eight bits. Internet providers advertise megabits per second; download managers show megabytes per second. Dividing by eight gets you from one to the other, so 100 Mbit/s is 12.5 MB/s at best, before any protocol overhead.
